Georgia State University’s Center forExcellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL - cetl.gsu.edu) is looking for a Learning Technologist, Lead to joinour vibrant and growing team. The Learning Technologist, Lead designs anddevelops a proactive environment to engage faculty in their professionaldevelopment and to assist them in the integration of technology in theircourses and curricula. The learning technologist, lead is responsible for thedaily operation and management of resources, services and campus-based spacesthat support faculty use of learning technologies including supervision ofstudent assistants and graduate assistants. Responsibility for researching,creating, and delivering faculty development opportunities is also in thepurview of this position.

The lead serves as a project manageron the development of new workshops and instructional content as well as a leadresource related to learning technology projects and grants. The lead alsoplays a significant role in the testing of new learning systems. The learningtechnologist lead provides leadership on the evaluation and implementation ofnew learning technologies. The position is expected to stay abreast of trendsin learning technologies. The position promotes the work of the Center forExcellence in Teaching at local, state, and national level. On an as-neededbasis, the learning technologist lead represents the Faculty Development andSupport area on various committees, councils and working groups. The learningtechnologist lead may also represent the university at University System ofGeorgia meetings. 


Responsibilities include the following:

  • Ensure Centers forExcellence in Teaching and Learning are staffed and opened. Oversee theequipment checkout inventory, process, and policies. Provide one-on-one supportto faculty on technological and pedagogical practices related to learningtechnologies. Participate in setting the direction for usage of equipmentincluding workstations and spaces in the Center for Excellence in Teaching andLearning.

  • Provide exemplary,consistent, and convenient learning technology support on GSU campuses.Collaborate with the other CETL unites, IIT, and the larger University toestablish programs that encourage the use of pedagogically appropriate learningtechnologies. Assist CETL and IIT with evaluation and testing of new technologyimplementations.

  • Manage projects such as workshopdevelopment, instructional materials creation, and grant-related projects.Create project plans, schedule resources, review project status, and plancommunications. 

  • Respond in a timely and professionalmanner to requests for information. Plan and participate in work-relatedcommunity events. Advise the Assistant Director, Technology Enhanced Teachingand Learning on trends, state and federal standards, and research related toaccessibility and universal design. Represent the learning technology team oncampus committees and participate in relevant meetings, working groups,workshops, conferences, and communities. 

  • Research and recommend new technologies andstrategies. Attend and present at professional conferences, webinars, andworkshops. Plan and engage with the larger Center for Excellence in Teachingand Learning on research and grant opportunities. Represent the university in UniversitySystem of Georgia meetings, task forces, conferences, and constituent groupstoo promote GSU learning technology interests. Read professional books,articles, newsfeeds, and blogs. Share new findings and insights with colleaguesand stakeholders

  •  Provideprofessional development for faculty and graduate teaching assistants.

  •  Research,develop, and deliver faculty development/professional development programs,workshops, and events. Manage the design and development of learning technologydocumentation and resources. 

  •  Collaboratewith CETL, IIT, and the larger University Community to staff programs,workshops, and events. 




QualificationsBachelor's degree and three years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Georgia State’s main campus is located on 34 acres in downtown Atlanta. University centers in Alpharetta, Brookhaven, Buckhead and Henry County offer students convenient suburban locations for graduate courses in business and education.

More than 50,000 students annually attend Georgia State University. While 90 percent of the students are from Georgia, students also come from all 50 states and 160 countries. More than 1,400 international students attend Georgia State and graduate students comprise 31 percent of the student population.

Degrees are offered at the bachelor’s, master’s, specialist and doctoral levels through six units: the College of Arts and Sciences, J. Mack Robinson College of Business, College of Education, College of Health and Human Sciences, College of Law and Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. In addition to the numerous degree programs, Georgia State offers full- and part-time programs and day, evening and weekend classes.

Students have many choices in extracurricular activities including more than 22 fraternities and sororities; and some 250 chartered student groups, including 60 degree-related student groups, seven religious, 24 law-oriented and 22 multicultural/international groups; and 10 honor societies. There is also an active student government association which includes the student senate and the judicial board.

The Georgia State Panthers are members of the Colonial Athletic Association and compete in 16 NCAA Division I intercollegiate men’s and women’s sports, including basketball, baseball, softball, golf, tennis, track and volleyball. The university announced in April 2008 that is will begin Division I-AA football in 2010.

The university’s innovative Touch the Earth program brings outdoor recreation ranging from backpacking, rock climbing, sailing, kayaking, rafting and water-skiing to out-of-state snow-skiing and snorkeling trips. And WRAS, Georgia State’s popular 100,000-watt radio voice, is the most powerful student-run radio station in the United States.
