The Faculty’s Divisional IT team, Information and Instructional Technology (IIT), is a crucial source of support for the Faculty’s teaching, learning, research, and administrative operations. Our core functions include Infrastructure-Server/Networking, Client Services and Teaching Technology Support, Product & Delivery Services, and Applications & Development. We provide responsive, client-focused technology and project delivery, day-to-day assistance, ongoing maintenance, and computing lab management with professional IT stewardship.

Your opportunity:
Under the supervision of the Manager, Educational Technology, the Education and Collaborative Technology Specialist will provide exemplary day to day support, faculty and department consultations as well as research and implementation of new educational and collaborative technologies to support the effective use of technology in shared spaces and online.

This work will be achieved in consultation with the Online Learning Academy, and in close collaboration with other members of the Teaching & Learning Office as well as institutional information technology and educational technology partners.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the end to end needs of instructors and departments in education and collaborative technology delivery, including the Learning Management Engine, Quercus, Office 365 services and shared spaces.
  • Guiding day to day operations with focus on client request fulfillment and knowledge management.
  • Developing instructional design plans for use in teaching contexts involving educational technologies.
  • Planning, overseeing, and delivering the implementation of technology projects.
  • Conducting needs assessments and research to determine end-user technical requirements.
  • Advising instructors on technology strategies for developing and delivering curricula.
  • Researching, recommending, and supporting educational technologies and best practices related to teaching, with special focus on online learning.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in the field of Education, Information Technology/Instructional Technology, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years of recent and related experience working with various educational technologies, instructional design delivery and pedagogical approaches to educational teaching and learning.
  • Minimum two (2) years of recent and related experience supporting, designing, developing, and producing educational resources and instructional materials to support online and face-to-face learning environments.
  • Learning Management Engine support expertise with knowledge of Canvas is preferred.
  • Experience providing consultations and support to faculty/graduate students on teaching and learning-related topics, with a particular focus on educational technologies, including but not limited to, learning management systems, lecture capture technologies, webcasting technologies, video-conferencing, computer-based assessment technologies, plagiarism detection, collaboration tools, and content management.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting research in higher education (e.g. pedagogical strategies and educational technology in higher education).
  • Demonstrated experience in analyzing needs, evaluating, and recommending appropriate technology for teaching and learning goals.
  • Demonstrated experience with Office 365 products and services.
  • Expert proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Expert proficiency in online learning software packages.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, planning and project management skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong customer-service orientation and ability to work with a variety of clients.
  • Strong collaborator in a team-oriented environment.


Assets (Nonessential):

  • University-level teaching experience an asset.
  • Familiarity with the University of Toronto and knowledge of U of T policies and procedures that impact teaching and learning support is an asset.
  • Expertise with computing hardware to support educational technology including a variety of tablets, writing devices, webcams and microphones is an asset.
  • Audio visual and video conferencing project coordination, solutions and support expertise is a strong asset.
  • Online learning video production is an asset.
