Description:

The Department of Psychiatry at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and the University of Toronto is seeking a Clinician-teacher with scholarly achievement to start on January 4, 2021. The successful candidate will join the ambulatory (outpatient) program in the Division of Youth Psychiatry, working with youth ages 14-24 with complex mood and anxiety disorders, and will take a lead role in the Youth Division’s Urgent Assessment Clinic, providing urgent subspecialty consultations to the Sunnybrook Emergency Department. The successful candidate will be expected to participate fully in the clinical and academic interprofessional activities of the Department of Psychiatry, including the psychiatry call system and teaching program.

The Division of Youth Psychiatry at Sunnybrook is the largest Youth-specific psychiatric program in the country, with 11 full- and part-time psychiatrists; its outpatient program serves approximately 1000 patients per year. Other youth-specific services in the Department include a Schedule 1 inpatient program with eight Youth beds (ages 14-18) and a Day Treatment Program (“Fresh Start”) affiliated with the Toronto District School Board; eligible patients in the Division have access to expertise from other departmental programs, including the Harquail Centre for Neuromodulation, the Thompson Centre for Anxiety Disorders, and the Family Navigation Project.

The staff psychiatrist should have a track record of excellence in teaching, given the frequent presence of learners within the Department. Advanced training in urgent care, mood and anxiety disorders, and/or trauma would be an asset.

Applicants should be certified (or eligible for certification) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the Province of Ontario and be eligible for a full-time academic appointment in the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine at University of Toronto. Compensation will be based on a fee-for-service structure with additional funding through Academic and Educational Trust Funds and/or Departmentally-sanctioned administrative roles.
