Description:

The School of Information Sciences in the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s (UTK) College of Communication and Information (CCI), is seeking a non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Practice in Information Sciences to join us in our quest to enrich, elevate and transform communities and the information professions through excellence in research, education and service.  The initial appointment for this 12-month position will be up to a maximum of three years, with the possibility of renewal.  

The successful candidate will teach four classes in both fall and spring semesters, one class in the summer, and advise students in our ALA-accredited master’s degree program in information sciences. School, college, university, and/or professional service are also expected.  Candidates with teaching interests in areas that complement any the school’s areas of expertise will be considered (see https://sis.utk.edu/exploreprograms/msis/ for more information). We especially welcome candidates with demonstrated success in working with diverse populations and the ability to teach one or more of the courses required for the MSIS degree.  


Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: Earned Master’s from ALA-accredited program or equivalent, and significant relevant experience by time of appointment in information sciences or a related area. Record of successful teaching and mentoring in an institution of higher education, in areas related to the master’s degree program.  Experience or demonstrated ability in the design and delivery of courses in a variety of formats, including face-to-face, synchronous online, asynchronous online, and hybrid. Experience in – or the potential for – building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment in teaching, mentoring, life experiences, or service. Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students and staff from a wide range of disciplines, cultures and academic backgrounds is essential. Ability to build positive and mutually beneficial relationships with professionals working in a variety of information sectors. 

Desired Qualifications: Earned doctorate by time of appointment in information sciences or a related area.  Candidates with professional experience in information sciences-related careers are especially welcome.
