Job Description:The specialist will help develop social media and digital-media web products that engage audiences and increase their knowledge of coastal and marine issues. Significant external audiences include decision makers, resource managers, media, coastal residents, the scientific community, Florida visitors, and graduate and undergraduate students. Internal audiences include the statewide network of Sea Grant-affiliated faculty and scientists as well as Sea Grant specialists and agents in UF/IFAS Extension.
- Design, manage, and evaluate website and social media accounts.
The main Florida Sea Grant website is www.flseagrant.org and uses a WordPress content management system. The specialist will manage and update the site based on their training and experience, requests from the Sea Grant team, and analytics and other evaluative tools. The specialist also will strategize, provide content for, and use analytics to maintain and grow Florida Sea Grant’s social media accounts, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and others.
With much of FSG’s programing moving to virtual formats, the specialist will help with the production and distribution of webinars, video, social media events, and stay attuned to the latest advances in tools that can augment and amplify these products.
The specialist must be a practitioner, creating digital content for use by the program, as well as a teacher that instructs agents and staff on how to use new technologies to produce their own communications materials.
$50,000 - $55,000
Minimum Requirements:Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and one year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have a valid State of Florida driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:Master’s degree in an appropriate area to include demonstrated responsibility with performing the essential functions of this position; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience.
Capacity to work independently as a self-starter, capable of attention to detail and high-volume production under deadline and with minimal supervision.
Excellent written and oral English-language skills. A strong, demonstrated interest in natural resources conservation or marine sciences. A diversity of skills in digital media, including, but not limited to, website development and maintenance, desktop publishing, and multimedia production. Demonstrated ability to use social media and new media technology. Competency with MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and web-based CMS such as WordPress. Capacity to work independently as a self-starter, capable of attention to detail. Familiarity in a second language, particularly Spanish, would be helpful.
