Work Location:

Chapel Hill, NC. Trainees must be physically present on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus and engaged in research training at least 4 days per week during the training period.

Position Summary:

The University is seeking postdoctoral trainees to undertake research training at the School of Nursing, with an emphasis on designing, testing and implementing complex theory-based interventions for the prevention and management of chronic illness. The length of the training is 2 years. The initial appointment will be for 1 year. Re-appointment is contingent on productivity (e.g., submitted papers, abstracts, applications for funding) and progress towards training goals during year 1. Trainees will work with their mentor to develop an Individual Development Plan (IDP) that will be used to guide their training and to evaluate their progress. Trainees will participate in two required T32-specific courses (N957: From theory to intervention and implementation, N958: Designing theory-based intervention studies) and are strongly encouraged to participate in HPM767: Disseminating evidence & innovation in cancer care. Other academic coursework will be kept to a minimum and relate directly to the trainees’ training goals and postdoctoral research. Trainees will have mentored research experiences with SON and interdisciplinary faculty and attend weekly research seminars. The NINR (funding agency) views research training as a full-time obligation. Thus trainees supported by T32NR007091 may work no more than 10 hours per week for pay outside of the T32. Trainees receive a monthly stipend (set by the funding agency based on years post PhD), tuition assistance, and support for professional travel and research-related expenses. Trainees may elect graduate health insurance, which will be paid by the T32.

Educational Requirements:

Applicants must be registered nurses (RN) with a research doctorate (PhD) in nursing or a related field. Please note: the PhD degree must be awarded prior to appointment to the research training grant.

Qualifications and Experience:

Successful candidates will have demonstrated previous course work and research experiences related to using theory and research methods to study health-related problems and outcomes among individuals, families, communities or populations at risk for/living with illnesses such as: cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, mental illness, and neurological disorders at the individual, family, community or population level.

Equal Opportunity Employer:

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, color, disability, gender, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or status as a protected veteran.
