Position Summary:

The incumbent will be able to perform a variety of roles in the area of general lab support and safety, and will also need to be experienced in techniques commonly used in the 21st Century molecular genetics laboratory, including PCR, RT-PCR, nucleic acid isolation cloning, SDS-PAGE, western blotting, protein purification, RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, co-immunoprecipitation, and tissue culture. The incumbent will work closely with the PI and other senior researchers in the group in the pursuit of molecular genetics and neuroscience experimentation. The successful applicant must be willing to work with mice OR become involved in the stem cell modeling program, based upon their expertise and interests. The successful applicant will have an opportunity to contribute and provide input to ongoing research projects. In addition to tasks involved in producing mice for research projects, the researcher will have the opportunity to perform experimental procedures, including molecular biology techniques and cell culture experiments, and become directly involved in a limited number of research projects, based upon their interests.

Required:

Theoretical and advanced knowledge equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Biology or Master's degree in Biology, Genetics, Neurobiology, or related field of study or an equivalent combination of experience and education. Possess a sophisticated understanding of basic techniques of RNA nucleic acid isolation and PCR amplification, as well as gel electrophoresis. Hands-on experience with advanced molecular genetics and biochemical techniques including PCR, RT-PCR, cloning, SDS-PAGE, western blotting, protein purification, RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, co-immunoprecipitation, and tissue culture. Experience with maintaining a mouse colony and with animal handling and minor surgery. Excellent verbal and written communication skills that facilitate professional, effective, and courteous interaction with diverse population. Strong interpersonal skills including diplomacy and flexibility, with ability to work in a team framework. Experience with the operation of a personal computer and software applications, including Word, Photoshop and Excel.

Preferred:

Williness to learn new molecular, neurobiological, and biochemical techniques.
