This position communicates regularly with campus partners regarding policy violations, criminal or suspicious activity, and the Community Safety Program. Additionally, this role focuses on access to campus buildings, detection of policy violations, and security patrols for campus buildings.

Patrolling the campus by foot, bicycle, motorcycle, and vehicle, the CU Boulder Police work diligently with the University community and surrounding agencies to ensure a timely and coordinated law enforcement response. What Your Key Responsibilities Will BeSecurity Patrols:
- Maintain visible and routine security patrols. Identify and address and policy or law violations. Evaluate, report and resolve any security and/or infrastructure issues
- Unlock and lock buildings Academic buildings or Housing and Dining buildings.
- Write reports, including both routine patrol logs and incident reports.
- Multifunctional database access and use for information gathering.
- This position is subject to a background investigation, including criminal, financial, motor vehicle records background check; an Excluded Parties List System check; reference check; polygraph; psychological evaluation; and a drug screen.
- Per department policy, applicants who have used marijuana within two years of application will be disqualified.
- The anticipated salary is $17.50 per hour. Salary will also include differential pay for second shift ($18.37 per hour) and third shift ($19.25 per hour) hours worked.

- Must be a current Colorado resident, at least 18 years of age, and have a valid Colorado Driver’s License in good standing.
- Demonstrate maturity and a collaborative, team-based approach while working with a diverse and highly active academic community.
- Excellent communication skills during complex situations and coordinate with emergency responders using police radios.
- Ability to work varying shift work throughout a predominately night time period (4pm-3am), work Holidays, weekends, and other required dates/times that are common to a Police Department operating 24/7/365.
- Ability to walk long distances per shift to adequately patrol Academic Facilities, including climbing/descending staircases in high rise buildings to specifically patrol those stairwell areas.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of 4 or more hours of time while maintaining a visible presence and also remain standing throughout the assignment of perimeter duties on emergency or special event situations such as Stadium/Arena concerts, races, etc.
- Ability to work Special Events and/or Emergency Incidents in support of the Police Department sometimes with little or no advanced notice.
- Ability to efficiently and optimally work alone in all weather and facility conditions.
- Ability to make reasonable decisions based upon University and Department policies.
- Ability to repeatedly lift metal police barricade sections 8-12-foot-long, approximately 45 inches in height, weighing approximately 50lbs-57lbs per section, while setting up or tearing down equipment during emergency or planned special event deployments.
- Ability to push and pull up to 30 pounds of weight with no restrictions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook email, SharePoint, Office 365, or other similar products.
- Customer service experience.
- Prior experience in law enforcement, military, or security fields of work.

This position is designated “essential services.” The incumbent is required to respond to requests for work during campus emergencies (snow, wind, rain, flood and any other natural or man-made event) and report to work for his / her regularly assigned shift during emergency campus closures.
