Coach will commit to a term of service beginning in late August 2020 through the end of June 2021. This appointment includes mandatory training with Washtenaw Futures in August 2020. Additional on-campus trainings and meetings throughout the year are required.

Program Summary
Overall Goal of the Washtenaw My Brother's Keeper Coach The goal is to expose young men of color (middle to high school) to educational, cultural and professional pathways less visible and/or accessible.
Rationale: “While Washtenaw County has the largest percentage of residents with a college degree in the state of Michigan (61%), we believe this is because a number of public and private colleges and universities call Washtenaw their home. However, for students growing up in Washtenaw, the path to college access and attainment is challenging and difficult.” (Washtenaw Futures Website).
For example, in Washtenaw County, standardized test data shows that 8.5% of African-American juniors are college ready compared to their 40% of their White peers (MiCollegeData). This disparity perpetuates and impacts college admission and persistence.
