Warren Wilson College invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Admissions. Working as a member of the Enrollment Division, the Assistant Director of Admissions will serve as an experienced member of the dynamic admissions team responsible for attracting and recruiting Warren Wilson College students. Because the Assistant Director will be responsible for cultivating applications from domestic and international geographic recruitment territories, the selected candidate must be a compelling communicator in person, over the phone, and in writing, with a commitment to sharing the Warren Wilson and an eye toward diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Assistant Director will have strong and persuasive communication skills that will serve as an example to admissions counselors, and their work will demonstrate attention-to-detail, timely follow-up, and strong organization. Meticulous and thorough work habits combined with excellent interpersonal skills will be a hallmark of the Assistant Director. They must be able to work independently, make decisions, develop processes, execute and assess programs, plan recruitment travel, and monitor a budget.

In addition to working with prospective students and their families in person, over email, and over the phone, the selected candidate will also cultivate relationships with school counselors and other enrollment professionals with the goal of increasing pipelines and awareness of the College’s undergraduate programs. They will oversee all international recruitment for the college, working closely with the Global Engagement Office on onboarding of international students. They will be expected to contribute to the admissions annual plan and will be a strong and collaborative partner for various offices and departments around the college, especially the Financial Aid Office, Center for Integrated Advising and Careers, Registrar, and the Global Engagement Office. This position requires the ability to travel and work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years or more of professional work experience in undergraduate admissions at a regionally accredited 2- or 4-year college or university.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and Google Suite.
  • Valid driver’s license and passport required.
  • Experience recruiting or working with international students in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency and demonstrated experience utilizing the Slate CRM or a similar recruitment system.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of immigration regulations for F-1 students and procedures to the processing of I-20 & I-901 for international students in compliance with Department of Homeland State regulations.
  • Experience working with foreign credential evaluations.
  • Experience in sales, customer service, or relationship management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate and manage student recruitment.

  • Work with members of the Enrollment Division to develop and implement strategies to generate and complete domestic and international undergraduate applications for admission.
  • Complete at least 50 and usually 75 outbound calls per week to prospective students.
  • Conduct the review and selection of applicants in a thorough and timely manner.
  • Attend college fairs and plan high school and college campus visits and other recruitment events to generate interest and cultivate relationships (up to 14 weeks of travel per year).
  • Communicate with advisors and counselors to cultivate strong relationships and develop enrollment pipelines.
  • Conduct activity related to the conversion of applications throughout the enrollment funnel.
  • Identify secondary and tertiary markets with potential and develop plans to maximize them, especially international markets.
  • Deliver highly compelling and persuasive information sessions and assist in training admissions counselors on persuasive communication and storytelling.
  • Assist in all on-campus/off-campus recruitment events.
  • Be knowledgeable of the recruitment guidelines developed by NACAC (National Association of College Admissions Counselors), it’s partner organizations (SACAC, PNACAC, etc.), and International ACAC.

Develop territory communication plan

  • Become an expert user in the admissions CRM (Slate), building email filters and sending communications through the system.
  • Write appropriate content for the website, emails, texts, brochures, and other recruitment materials.
  • Support admissions counselors in CRM and data needs.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Marketing & Operations on territory-specific marketing materials.
  • Create and develop a communication plan for international students, including virtual information sessions and webinars.

Data management and reporting.

  • Develop and distribute enrollment reports for your territory. Assist the admissions counselors with their reports if needed.
  • Provide comprehensive and detailed notes in CRM related to each applicant post visit and application review.
  • Ensure accurate data entry of students in admissions and campus-wide information systems (Slate and Jenzabar).
  • Coordinate in the management of application systems (e.g. The Common Application) with the Director of Admissions, Admission Records Specialist, and/or Admission Systems Specialist.

Campus relationships.

  • Develop strong, productive relationships across campus, but especially with the Financial Aid Office, Advancement, Athletics, Center for Integrated Advising & Careers, Global Engagement Office, and faculty partners.
  • Support and set a strong professional example for members of the admissions crew and other current students working in the office.
  • Serve as a reliable member of the admissions team.
  • Represent the Office of Admissions to areas such as Orientation, Advancement, and other committees if needed. Attend campus events and facilitate campus-wide involvement in recruitment and admissions activities.
  • Continually consider the impact of work on other campus constituencies, with an eye towards partnership.
  • Develops, maintains, and works within a realistic budget, with specific attention to special projects and ongoing department needs. Works with the Director of Admissions to establish a territory specific recruitment budget.
  • Reconciles credit card statements, collects and submits all departmental check requests to the office of Administration and Finance. Prepares Pre-Travel authorization and budget information for approval.
