Reporting to the Assistant Principal & Registrar of Woodsworth College, the Director, Access Programs, and Registrarial Services is an integral member of the senior management team of Woodsworth College and within the Registrar’s Office. The Director provides the overall strategic leadership and direction on regristrarial front-line services and communication to students. The Director has overarching responsibility for the strategic management and administration of the Academic Bridging Program (part-time and full-time options), the Visiting Student Program, the International Visiting Student Program, the Seniors Program, Diploma to Degree Programs, SEE U of T, and the Morneau McCain Scholars Program.

The Director develops the strategic plans for Access Programs that articulates priorities, enrolment goals, outreach initiatives, tactics, metrics and benchmarks to enhance the student experience in the various access programs and to develop the supports and programming to ensure the best possible opportunity for student academic success. The incumbent ensures the strategic plans are informed by extensive consultation with key stakeholders (internal and external); current and historical data; market research and competitive analysis; demographic patterns and forecasts; best practices and emerging strategies/tactics; available technology; internal context; and aligns the programs with the vision/mission/values and broader strategic priorities (e.g., Woodsworth College, Faculty of Arts and Science and the University of Toronto).

The Director is responsible for outreach and developing partnerships within the larger community in the ongoing mission to increase access to post-secondary education for underrepresented populations. The Director collects and monitors data on all access programs to assess student success and to strategically manage recruitment and retention across the various programs.

The Director builds, leads and exercises the full managerial authority of the staff within the Access portfolio and assumes responsibility for human resources and labour relations including dispute resolution and compliance of collective agreements, including the strategic development and delivery of front-line advising services, including email advising, phones and online services and communication to students.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

EDUCATION:

University degree required; graduate degree preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE:

At least eight (8) years of senior administrative experience providing academic and administrative support services to a multi-diverse and at-risk student, and faculty in a post-secondary educational registrar’s office.

Experience working in an educational setting.

Leadership and management experience in a unionized environment.

Proven experience in developing strategic and operational plans, preferably as they relate to recruitment, retention, delivery of academic support and communications.

Demonstrated working experience counselling students taking a non-traditional pathway to post-secondary studies.

Experience working with students from a broad range of academic, racial, economic and social backgrounds.

Demonstrated knowledge of undergraduate education and experience in working with students taking non-traditional pathways to post-secondary studies.

Experience building collaborative working relationships with multiple stakeholders and partners internal and external.

SKILLS:

Superior oral and written communication skills with an emphasis on customer service.

Excellent reporting and presentation/public speaking skills; highly developed and proven problem-solving and facilitation skills in the resolution of student issues; excellent organizational skills.

Highly computer literate with sound knowledge of PC/MAC platforms, internet, CRM and student information systems.

Highly motivated with proven leadership and mentoring skills.

Tact, diplomacy and proven professionalism relating to working collaboratively; cross-cultural competence;

Demonstrated working knowledge and experience in matters of diversity, equity and access.

OTHER:

An understanding and knowledge of best practices in recruitment and retention with respect to racialized and underrepresented populations in post-secondary education.

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and develop good relationships with students, colleagues, senior university administrators, external partners and members of community organizations.

Good knowledge of university policies, procedures and collective agreements.

Strong organizational, planning, time management skills and the ability to set priorities for self and others. Ability to analyze complex technical tasks and implement solutions.

Ability to think logically and consistently plan, coordinate with a commitment to improving the work environment.

Ability to negotiate a heavy workload.

Ability to recognize and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive personal and operational information.
