Job Description:

The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Cellular and Molecular Therapy is seeking candidates for a full-time OPS Laboratory Technician position in the Hoffman Research Laboratory.

Duties to include:

  • Perform mouse work including general maintenance of animal colony, tail genotyping by Polymerase chain reaction (PCR), assisting the Principal Investigator (PI) and lab staff in communication with collaborators and University of Florida (UF) animal facilities staff.
  • Perform and/or assist with a variety of procedures on mice, including but not limited to, daily handling (scruffing), scoring and well-being maintenance, dissection and tissue collection, subcutaneous, intraperitoneal and tail vein injections, facial bleeding, and ear tagging.
  • Perform paraffin embedding, sectioning, and appropriate staining of mouse brain, spinal cord, liver and other tissues.
  • Perform immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, ELISA and other histopathological analysis.
  • Perform microscope analysis and imaging (confocal and light microscopes) of processed mouse tissue.
  • Perform basic molecular biology experiments, including genotyping and Western analysis.
  • Prepare tissues for and run Flow Cytometry samples.
  • Perform calculations and maintain appropriate log books and lab notebooks; Will require use of Excel and GraphPad Prism for data analysis and Adobe Photoshop and PowerPoint for preparing final images, followed by effective communication to lab members.
  • Maintain lab equipment and supplies. Clean and perform routine maintenance on lab equipment. Follow and be familiar with IACUC and safety protocols.
Expected Salary:

$14.00 - $18.00 per hour; commensurate within this range based on qualifications and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and appropriate experience

Preferred Qualifications:1-2 years of experience in handling and analysis of mice. Experience working:
  • In a laboratory
  • With Adeno-associated virus (AAV)
  • With Flow Cytometry
  • With experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis models (EAE)
