The Director of the Pre-School provides leadership, coordination and supervision for the day-to-day operation of the facility. This position manages the budget of the school and assures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College’s District Board of Trustees.

  • Oversees and manages the budget of the school to ensure fiscal responsibility and sets priorities for center and classroom expenditures, including grants and other funding sources
  • Hires, supervises, conducts orientations, establishes procedures, and evaluates staff; and updates Staff Handbook annually with the Office of Legal Affairs
  • Conducts on-site professional development for staff, MDC students, and volunteers; establishes career ladder guidelines for professional development; and provides support to Early Childhood Education student interns
  • Establishes guidelines and procedures for parents/families, MDC students, and volunteers, and conducts orientations; and updates Families’ Handbook annually with the Office of Legal Affairs
  • Supports developmentally appropriate and effective curriculum development in all classrooms and works with staff to order educational materials, equipment, and supplies
  • Works with staff to assess children and makes referrals as appropriate
  • Completes DCF documents, Child Care Food Program contracts, School Readiness, and VPK documents annually according to mandated due dates
  • Plans and conducts parent meetings and teaches effective parenting classes and maintains social media communication
  • Assists in the development of grant proposals, submits annual reports to accrediting agencies, and prepares staff for the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) reaccreditation
  • Oversees and manages the Child Care Access Means Parents in School (CCAMPIS) grant, reporting and budget; and submits annual reports
  • Performs other duties as assigned

    Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, and three (3) years of related experienceCompletion of the State of Florida Department of Children and Families Early Care and Education Director’s CredentialAll educational degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
  • Ability to meet deadlines for the state and federal subsidy programsExcellent knowledge of state licensing and accrediting agencies requirements
  • Knowledge of proper physical environment of the preschool to ensure safety and health and sanitation requirements
  • Knowledge of College-wide and Campus policies and proceduresStrong communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to understand and manage complexities of a preschool program within an academic environment
  • Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with parents/families, children, staff, and MDC faculty and staff, including social media and technologyAbility to travel between Campuses and events as needed
