Completes reconciling, prepares monthly financial reports, submits transactions, prepares special reports, and develops re-budgeting documents for contract and grant activity. Works with PIs (Principal Investigators) to provide comprehensive financial plans for multiple awards in order to maximize the financial resources of each award type within compliance standards, performs analysis of spending patterns and historical trends, and ensures appropriate spending authority and fiduciary responsibility.

Assists PIs with various phases of contract and grant activities to include proposal development, interpreting grant announcements, ensuring compliance with guidelines, submission requirements, and deadlines as assigned by supervisor. Prepares and revises complex and detailed multi-year budgets and budget justifications that reflect accurate projections of costs based on the research study, calculate correct fringe and indirect cost calculations and rates. Ensures that all state/federal and university policies are met. Reviews proposals for completeness, adherence to announcement, and financial accuracy.

Coordinates the personnel appointments with PI, Supervisor, Administration, and department HR (Human Resources) Representative. Monitors appointments for accuracy and budget availability, works with PIs, appointees, and HR Rep to take corrective action when issues arise. Supports HR functions of the central Physics Department office as needed.

Assists the Travel Representative for the Department on travel authorizations and reimbursements by communicating PIs plans and anticipated needs. Assists to ensure travel submissions are compliant with Uniform Guidance and agency rules, and state, federal, and university policies are met. Ensures that requests are completed in a timely manner by following up with all parties, and assures that expenditures from assigned projects are allowable and reasonable. Serves as back up to Travel Representatives as necessary. Serves as a back up P-card representative as needed.

Reviews and interprets Federal, State, and local agency awards, guidelines, and policies for compliance. Works with supervisor to advise investigators and department personnel of appropriate actions for topics and questions regarding grant administration based on agency rules and regulations. Monitors completion of grant reporting deadlines within the department and assists with grant reporting requirements. Facilitates project close out at six months, three months, and one month prior to end date, finalizes project accounting, and assures that project is ready for final review by Sponsored Research AdministrationQualifications Bachelor's degree; or a high school diploma and four years of experience related to the duties of this position.

(Note: or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to four years.)

Knowledge of and the ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Experience compiling, reviewing, and reconciling data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.

Experience using Microsoft Office with proficient knowledge of Excel.

Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments and meet project deadlines.

Experience demonstrating effective customer service skills in a professional office setting.

This position requires successful completion of the eSPEAR Certification Series within the first six months of employment.Preferred Accounting courses, certification, or degree is preferred.Anticipated Salary Range Anticipated starting salary of low to mid $30,000s.Pay Plan This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.Schedule If not otherwise specified, schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.Criminal Background Check This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check.
