Lamar State College
The position of Correctional Education Specialist reports directly to the Director of Correctional Education. Must be able to drive to area prisons. Employment contingent upon obtaining and maintaining clearance with both Texas Department of Criminal Justice and Federal Bureau of Prisons. Duties and responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to the Essential Job Functions, as well as other related duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in related area is preferred. Minimum of one to two years experience on jobs leading to this or similar job. Experience and training can be substituted for education.
Valid driver’s license.
Ability to deal with public, faculty, students, and staff in a professional, courteous manner.
Ability to perform detailed work rapidly and accurately.
Ability to work in stressful situations.
Ability to interact productively with incarcerated individuals.
Knowledge of prison environment.
Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Banner experience preferred.
High quality communication skills, written and spoken.
Must be able to demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of students from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to promote a positive campus image.
Ability to plan, schedule, and manage projects as well as assignments.
Ability to follow established college policies and procedures.

Frequent travel from campus to the area prison facilities.
