The principal focus of this job is to support the mission of Valparaiso University by creating a community of learning dedicated to excellence and grounded in the Lutheran tradition of scholarship, freedom, and faith, to prepare students to lead and serve both church and society.

Scope: The Program Coordinator (PC) will have primary responsibility for the development and implementation of educational and cultural programming as well as the creation and maintenance of the GKC communication structures. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for the creation of programming and support for students connected to the three functional areas of the GKC. The Program Coordinator will also supervise student staff and all student group structures while serving as a resource for students in regards to their academic, personal, and social needs.

  1. Basic Responsibilities
    1. Serve as a resource for students in regard to academic, personal and social needs.
    2. Supervise student staff and student groups connected to the GKC.
    3. Assist each director in developing and maintaining programs for targeted subpopulations.
    4. Create and monitor GKC communication, passive programming, and program evaluation.

  1. Essential Duties
    1. Serve as a resource for students in regard to academic, personal, and social needs.
      1. Create and support orientation for incoming underrepresented and international students and outgoing global education students.
      2. Partner with the Office of admissions to support potential students from underrepresented backgrounds.
      3. Act as a neutral party for conflict resolution between multiple students and assist the Director in conflict resolution between students and faculty/staff.
      4. Maintain a system to quantify the number of students that are served by the GKC.

  1. Supervise student staff and student groups connected to the GKC.
    1. Oversee the recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of student employees and volunteers in the GKC.
    2. Serve as an advisor to student groups and support to faculty advisors for all student groups.
    3. Develop and implement student officer training with an intentional focus on identity development, leadership skill-building, and position-specific development.
    4. Facilitate individual student and leadership development for student group executive officers.
    5. Attend student meetings and events to support overarching group goals.
    6. Assist and serve as a chaperone for after hour and weekend activities on and off-campus, including potential travel to student conferences.

  1. Assist each director in developing and maintaining programs for targeted subpopulations.
    1. Assist in developing and maintaining the Gandhi-King Center Presents programming initiatives.
    2. Assist with FOCUS and Welcome Week events.
    3. Develop and implement new programs to directly confront systemic racism and xenophobia.
    4. Develop and coordinate the Summer Global Leadership Institute (SGLI)

  1. Create and monitor GKC communication, passive programming, and program evaluation.
    1. Guide the GKC and student organizations in the effective process of program proposal, execution, and evaluation.
    2. Produce weekly newsletter to inform the campus community about the events and opportunities available in the GKC.
    3. Evaluate and maintain yearly numbers on GKC program offerings.
    4. Work with student workers to aid multicultural group officers in events and community service.
    5. Serve as a liaison between groups and GKC for after hour’s events and programs.
    6. Create and distribute social media and passive programming content for the GKC and student groups.
