The College Health Nurse is primarily accountable to provide patient care services to students and staff at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Position also assists in the development of campus wide health initiatives.

Abilities and Skills

*Evidence of good management skills. (Minimum)
*Good oral and written communication skills. (Minimum)
*Possession of a valid driver’s License. (Minimum)
*Must be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) or willing and able to become certified. (Minimum)
*Ability to work with minimal supervision. (Minimum)
*Work in a team environment and develop professional relationship with physicians (Minimum)

Education

*Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and in good standing with the Pennsylvania Board of Nursing. (Minimum)
*Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. (Preferred)

Experience

*Three (3) years successful experience in generalized nursing practice under qualified nursing supervision, with good background in emergency nursing and/or occupational health nursing. (Minimum)
*Experience with an electronic medical record (EMR). (Desired)

Responsibilities and Duties

-Provide treatment of minor injuries and illnesses. (Essential)
-Triage the health needs of patients to include referral to medical care, counseling services, and/or community resources. (Essential)
-Respond as needed to catastrophic injuries/situations at the College; provide medical care and assessment; notify hospital, paramedics, designated relatives, and appropriate College personnel as directed by the Physician Assistant and College Nurse Supervisor. (Essential)
-Provide confidential health counseling for patients. (Essential)
-Provide family planning counseling and services to patients. (Essential)
-Provide health guidance for patients living with chronic illness/disability. (Essential)
-Educate the patients to become an independent health consumer. (Essential)
-Develop and update policies for management of health crises including necessary staff training. Predictable emergent health issues include immediate response to such problems as allergic reactions, severe asthma, diabetic crises, drug overdoses, suicidal behavior, and head and spinal injuries. (Essential)
-Serve as a liaison between parents, doctors, and students in medical matters. (Essential)
-Screen health history forms and initiate appropriate follow-up on indicated health problems. (Essential)
-Follow guidelines and protocols for the administration of medicines, immunizations. (Essential)
-Maintain complete and accurate documentation of nursing care given to patients. (Essential)
-Maintain inventory control of clinical supplies and order as needed. (Essential)
-Participate on health related committees as requested by the Physician Assistant and College Nurse Supervisor. (Essential)
-Comply with confidentiality requirements as set by HIPAA, FERPA, federal, state and local regulations. (Essential)
-Supervise student workers in the clinic. (Essential)
-Replenish first aid kit supplies as schools request. (Essential)
-Complete and forward all accident reports and insurance claims to the appropriate office(s); follow up as appropriate. (Essential)
-Make referrals as necessary to the College’s Counseling Center or the appropriate local medical or mental health facility. (Essential)
-Update health information on a regular basis or as necessary. (Essential)
-Remain familiar with current health trends and issues concerning the legality of reporting diseases and/or abuse, filing appropriate claims and other pertinent areas. (Essential)
-Assist in the development of Health Services publications as needed. Review and recommend revisions. (Essential)
-Maintain appointment schedule for students seeing the campus physician. (Essential)
-Assist medical staff with patient examinations and treatments as appropriate. (Essential)
-Dispense, collect payment, and maintain records of prescription drug sales to patients as appropriate. (Essential)
-Attend seminars and conferences on wellness issues that may be implemented at the College. (Essential)

Special Job Features

*Temporary Position.
*Some travel to on/off campus sites will be required.
*Some hours beyond the normal schedule which could include early mornings, evenings and weekends necessary to meet the needs of Health Services and special events.
*State Police, Child Line, and FBI fingerprint clearances under the Pennsylvania Child Protective Services Law (CPSL) required before employment can begin.

As such, are required to use the following elements of the Learning Management System (LMS): Upload all syllabi, timely use of the grade feature, and collection of digital student work and distribution of digital course materials.
