Position Summary:

The Communications and Marketing Manager for UCI's Program in Public Health will be responsible for the management, development, and hands-on execution of a communications and public relations strategy with the creation of branding, marketing, and feature content designed to build a strong global reputation for a top-tier school of public health. Reporting to the Dean and Director of Administration, this primary writing position is tasked with presenting the dean's vision and message while seeking out and telling the inspirational stories of accomplishment of the faculty and their research, students, alumni, donors, and community business partners in various forms of media (text and image) including but not limited to real-time presentations and events, website content, social media, e-newsletters, public relations/press releases, and print media. This position will be key in bringing attention to the future UCI School of Population and Public Health's integrative approach to healthcare training, research, and practice while also communicating our school's mission to promote patient empathy and reduce health disparities.

Independently oversees a comprehensive communications program for a unit or school with moderately complex communications requirements. The communications program usually includes written, visual, digital and electronic communications. Works with management to develop and execute organizational communication and market branding strategy. Designs and implements information campaigns.

Compensation Range:

$5,091.67 - $7,754.17

5-10 years of relevant experience.

Masters level degree in English, Journalism, Business, Marketing and / or equivalent experience / training.

Advanced skills in MS Office/Publisher/PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite. Strong ability for collaboration as well as self-direction. Advanced knowledge and understanding of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues, and most appropriate and effective applications. Excellent writing skills including copywriting, proofreading, and generating content. Professional under pressure, well spoken, approachable. Excellent analytical, critical thinking, project management, and problem recognition, avoidance, and resolution skills. Advanced skills to create, develop, and implement long and short term strategic communication plans. Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communications, including interviewing, active listening, and political acumen skills. Flexible in shifting demands, organized, excellent prioritization and time-management skills. Advanced skills to advise and consult management on all aspects of communications, ranging from developing effective communication strategies to appropriately responding to inquiries regarding sensitive or complex issues or information. Ability to attend/participate in internal and community events. Higher education institutional experience.


Advanced knowledge of the organization, including its mission, vision, goals, policies, and infrastructure; strong knowledge of current affairs and issues in higher education and / or health sciences. Thorough knowledge of location protocols and channels for communication internally and externally.
