Applications are being sought for an Assistant Director of International Admissions in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions (OUA). This position will oversee international admissions for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. This includes management of the processing unit and application review process and serving as the on-campus expert on undergraduate international admissions issues.

This is a 100% full-time, benefits-eligible, Academic Professional position. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the review process of approximately 13,000 international freshman and transfer applications annually; establish training materials, conduct annual training with appropriate staff and audit reviews for consistency. Familiarity with English proficiency standards and global education systems, including researching appropriate accreditation status of high schools and colleges/universities.
  • Serve as a resource within Undergraduate Admissions on international undergraduate admissions issues. This includes knowledge of admissions practices and policies, as well as staying current with national trends.
  • Provide direct supervision of professional staff member(s) and the international processing unit. Assist with hiring, training and mentoring new staff hires. Conduct performance evaluations; recommend salary increases; set performance goals; recommend professional development; update training materials; and meet with direct reports on a regular basis to review the status of their goals.
  • Ensure procedures and policies surrounding I-20s, DS2019s, visas, citizenship, residency assignments and English proficiency are followed.
  • Assess operational functions within the international processing unit and provide recommendations for improvement and efficiencies.
  • Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) for Undergraduate Admissions.
  • Analyze data to inform decisions on Illinois’ best practices in regard to the international admission process.
  • Serve as a resource and contact for colleges and departments, International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), and other campus units with questions about international admissions.
  • Coordinate the annual review and update of training materials for staff.
  • Collaborate with the communications staff to establish operational campaigns specifically for international applicants.
  • Responsible for updating information on admissions website pertaining to international issues.
  • Member of professional development organizations and present at both regional and national conferences.
  • Represent the Director at meetings and other events as requested, particularly those focused on international issues.
  • Education and Experience:

    Required –

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least three years of professional experience in admissions, recruitment or a related field in higher education, including knowledge of global educational systems
  • Preferred -

  • Master’s degree
  • At least five years of professional experience in international admissions and/or international recruitment, including knowledge of global educational systems and supervision
  • Prior experience with SEVIS, Banner and/or Slate
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with student information systems and client relationship management systems
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Keen attention to detail and strong organizational skills
