Title: Office Support Specialist

Department: Languages, Literatures and Cultures

General Summary

The person in this position supports the Undergraduate, Graduate, and Teacher Education programs of the department. The person also provides general support to the department and its instructors. The person also serves as the main receptionist for the department main office.

Required Qualifications

1. High school graduation or equivalent.

2. One (1) year (12 months) of work experience comparable to the second level of this series.

3. Any one or any combination of the following, totaling two (2) years (24 months) of experience in the categories below:

A. work experience performing office/clerical activities, including use of computer systems
B. college or university course work in any curriculum
-twelve (12) semester hours = six (6) months
-twenty-four (24) semester hours = twelve (12) months
-thirty-six (36) semester hours = eighteen (18) months
-forty-eight (48) semester hours = twenty-four (24) months

Desired Qualifications

1. Good working knowledge of the undergraduate and graduate programs and their policies.

2. Knowledge of University and College policies and procedures to help answer any questions that may arise serving as contact person for the department faculty and staff.

3. Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures required to serve as a contact person for staff of external units to answer any inquiries.

4. Demonstrated experience with computers and word processing is necessary.

5. Ability to answer most general questions regarding software (i.e. Word, excel, email, etc.)

Work Hours

8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday

Mandatory Physical Requirement

Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:

1. Ability to effectively communicate on a daily basis.
2. Ability to use a computer in day-to-day work (i.e. type on a keyboard and use a mouse).
3. Ability to work for extended periods at computer workstation.
4. Ability to maintain a high level of concentration.
5. Ability to perform sedentary work involving sitting the majority of the time.

$14.90- $15.55 per hour
