Requirements

The Center on Privacy & Technology seeks an individual with a degree in law, and significant experience in legal and policy research, to serve as an Institute Associate. The term for this position is 1 year, which can be extended upon mutual agreement if additional funding is secured by the Center. This Institute Associate will be charged with:
  • Conducting research on consumer privacy and surveillance of marginalized populations
  • Conducting in-depth policy research on privacy issues, and drafting white papers, op-eds, and other essays for peer-reviewed publication or publication in popular media
  • Presenting original research at conferences and publishing in academic journals
  • Serves as a resource to Georgetown Law students as an expert in the field of privacy
  • Briefing advocates, media, legislators, regulators and other experts on research findings
  • Other duties as assigned


Policy Research. The Institute Associate will conduct independent and in-depth policy research on privacy issues, and drafting white papers, op-eds, and other essays for peer-reviewed publication or publication in popular media. They will also brief advocates, media, legislators, regulators and other experts on research findings. In order to conduct this research, the Institute Associate will issue assignments to Research Assistants, oversee their work, and review their findings. The Associate will also serve as a resource or mentor to Georgetown Law students interested in tech and privacy issues and will occasionally present on current research to the Georgetown community.

The Institute Associate will report to the Director of Research & Advocacy. After conducting research and writing drafts, the Associate will brief and make recommendations to the Director of Research & Advocacy to consult and set the policy priorities and action items for the substantive research portfolio the Associate is responsible for. The Associate will also manage some of the research assistants hire to support the substantive work of the Center, assigning them projects, meeting with them, and reviewing their work.

Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor degree
  • At least 1 year of experience in legal research
  • Experience coordinating large research projects
  • Strong writing and communication skills


Preferred qualifications
  • Commitment to civil rights.
  • Interest in tech policy.
