The University Controller’s Office is a department under the Division of Finance. The office has business units covering the following areas; Cash Management, Banking and Merchant services; General Accounting, Financial Reporting and Taxation; Accounts Payable; Business Systems; Payroll and Debt Management.

The University Controller’s Office is responsible for fiscal accountability, accuracy and reporting of a $1.6 billion enterprise, including timely and accurate payment of monthly and biweekly wages to over 18,000 staff, faculty, student workers and temporary employees, over 90,000 vendor payments annually and management of a $600 million external debt portfolio.

Essential Job Duties

This position is part of the Cash Management team and will serve as the primary contact for daily cash management activities. This position will be responsible for the review and disposition of financial transactions from multiple sources and will ensure that all daily cash transactions are properly accounted for at the bank and in the NC State books. This will require research and interpretation of banking terminology and communication with campus, managers, and Associate Controller in order to identify and assist with the resolution of issues related to daily cash management and banking.

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Serving as the first point of contact to resolve campus issues regarding cash activities regarding daily task completion, issues regarding daily cash deadlines, and other issues that would delay or impede the daily cash activities of the University.
  • Claiming and classifying daily cash transactions from the State Bank.
  • Accurately recording bank transactions and maintaining balance between bank and financials.
  • Identifying external and state banking wires and working with campus departments to properly record transactions to financial system.
  • Completing complex daily reconciliation between financial activity, state bank, and commercial bank activity.
  • Interpreting and using daily system reports to insure that daily requisitions are entered into state banking system and NCSU financial system.
  • Preparation of general ledger journal entries to reclassification and correct financial data as needed.
  • Independently, analyzing university transactions generated as a result cash or cash transfer activities.
  • Communicating with Campus regarding certification of wires or identification of other incoming funds to the University.
Other Work/Responsibilities
  • Other duties as required to perform job.
  • Entering journals, daily reconciliations.
  • Maintaining departmental cash management spread sheets.
Minimum Experience/Education

Bachelor’s degree with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or Associate’s degree in Accounting; or Associate’s degree in Business or related discipline with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Departmental Required Skills

  • Ability to successfully interact with staff at a variety of levels.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
  • At least 5 years of cash management processing experience.
  • Peoplesoft experience (or similar software).
  • Experience with State of North Carolina systems CMCS and CORE banking.
  • General banking experience.
  • AA Accounting degree or similar preferred.
Required License or Certification
