The Teaching Technology Technician supports the innovative audio and video teaching technology needs for the Frost School of Music (FSOM). The candidate must use independent discretion and judgment to prioritize tasks and provide recommendations regarding issues. The position requires a high level of independent proficiency in setting up and operating audio, video and basic information technology equipment for lecture rooms, rehearsal halls, faculty studios, and other FSOM facilities. The individual will interact with faculty and staff in reinforcing school policies and procedures. This position requires a flexible work schedule to accommodate coverage for evening and/or weekend classes and events. The Teaching Technology Support Technician will report to the Director of Production Services.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support Dante audio in faculty studios, as well as any new video paradigms to assisting in remote learning.
- Maintain and support all rehearsal hall, classroom, faculty studio, and keyboard/multi-media lab audio and video equipment. This includes technology for both synchronous and asynchronous teaching, but not including faculty computers.
- Train and aid faculty, staff, and students with the setup, operation, and troubleshooting of all audio-visual equipment.
- Work with FSOM’s UM IT liaison to coordinate audio-visual and information technologies across Frost.
- Provide technical and creative input to continuously improve FSOM’s teaching spaces and learning modalities
- Support special projects as assigned by the Director of Production Services.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent
Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
- Advanced knowledge of classroom audio and video technologies
- Good understanding of IT and networking functions
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment, report findings, and make repairs if possible
- Knowledge of both Apple and Windows products
- Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
- Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
