Educational and Experience Requirement
Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Natural/Physical Sciences, Education, Marketing, Business Development, or related field. A Master’s degree is preferred. Two years of successful pre-award administration experience with research proposal concept development, preparation processes, and grant submissions, preferably in an institution of higher education similar to SHSU. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature & Purpose of Position
Finds potential funding opportunities and coordinates various aspects of the selection, creation, development, and preparation of proposals for assigned faculty, staff, and or special projects. Maintains and distributes accurate records on the status and disposition of proposals under development.

Primary Responsibilities
Meets with faculty/staff to clearly ascertain research interests, capabilities, and goals. Identifies and studies requirements of requests for proposal (RFP), strategically selects appropriate opportunities, and proactively follows-up with faculty, staff, and/or partner organizations to help create a proposal “concept” and clear development process. Understands and incorporates the capabilities of core SHSU research facilities/units, as well as potential collaborating institutions, as appropriate. Meets proposal submission deadline by establishing priorities; targets dates for information gathering, writing, review, and approval; and schedules and actively participates in strategic proposal production meetings. Stays in close contact with faculty and improves proposal acceptance results by evaluating the reviews of declined proposals; re-designing processes, approach, and coordination; implementing changes; and resubmitting the proposal. Maintains strong existing collaborative sponsor relationships, develops new relationships, and persistently refines and/or regularly develops new fundraising strategies/approaches. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Genuine enthusiasm, affinity, and passion for learning about very diverse academic disciplines, as well as finding, coordinating, and developing new funding opportunities. Must have excellent leadership, motivational team building, interpersonal/public communication (verbal and written), negotiation, multitasking, time management, decision making, problem solving, and critical thinking skills. Demonstrated ability to independently manage and prioritize responsibilities and tasks on multiple complex proposals that may involve many investigators, departments, institutions, and/or sub awards. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other existing and emerging software that may support communications and information management. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
