Associate Director of Counseling Services/Director of Clinical Services

Counseling Services at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for the position of Associate Director of Counseling Services/Director of Clinical Services. The associate director will be responsible for ensuring that Counseling Services is providing appropriate clinical services that meet the mental health needs of a diverse student body.

The Associate Director of Counseling Services/Director of Clinical Services will oversee clinical operations, provide clinical supervision for unlicensed/provisionally-licensed counselors, coordinate the psychological withdrawal and return processes within Counseling Services for the University, oversee and participate in Counseling Services’ on-call and crisis services, partner to ensure students are offered appropriate psychiatry services, and serve on campus committees. In addition, 30% of the Associate Director of Counseling Services/Director of Clinical Services’ time will be spent directly seeing clients.

Requirements: Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in counseling psychology, clinical psychology, counselor education, social work, or a closely related field. Terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., Psy.D., DSW.) preferred. Successful candidates will have extensive experience as a clinician in a college/university counseling center or a multidisciplinary outpatient mental health center, extensive experience meeting the mental health needs of a diverse population, and supervisory experience, preferably in a university setting.

Candidates must be currently licensed in South Carolina to practice counseling and provide clinical supervision to counselors. Candidates who are not currently licensed to practice counseling and supervise counselors in South Carolina are encouraged to explore licensure requirements in South Carolina prior to submitting their application to ensure they will be able to appropriately meet the requirement to become licensed within one year of hire.

Student Services Manager II (CB80/149014), full-time position with benefits. SC State pay band: 07. Primary work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. However, this position will require varying work hours and weekend work. Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in counseling psychology, clinical psychology, counselor education, or related field. Clinical/counseling experience in a college/university counseling center or a multidisciplinary outpatient mental health center; experience in program development, assessment and evaluation; demonstrated experience meeting the mental health needs of a diverse population; clinical supervision experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., Psy.D.) in Counseling psychology, clinical psychology, counselor education or related field. Experience in a higher education setting. Demonstrated work in the area of higher education assessment and planning. Demonstrated commitment to meeting the needs of a diverse campus population.

Required Licensure and/or Certification

Licensed in South Carolina to practice counseling and provide clinical supervision to counselors, or demonstrated eligibility for appropriate licenses within one year of hire.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Assessment and interventions for a wide range of psychological disorders and developmental problems. Individual, couples and group counseling. Public presentations and community outreach methods. Consultation skills. Crisis interventions skills. Demonstrated ability to meet the needs of a diverse campus population. Ability to engage in continued learning to stay abreast of changes in counseling/psychology field. Ability to manage clinical cases. Ability to lead and coordinate the work of clinical staff members.

Additional comments regarding this position

Must be able to work independently and make independent decisions regarding programs, services, and clients. This role is responsible for managing crisis situations and developing appropriate and immediate interventions.
