Asst/Assoc VP - Business Services & Organizational Excellence

Position Summary:

The Asst/Assoc Vice President for Business Services and Organizational Excellence (AVP) coordinates the delivery of key business services in support of students, faculty, staff and guests of the university. Reporting to the university’s chief operating officer, the AVP oversees:
• Auxiliary Services, including campus dining, transportation, parking, conference services, the university bookstore, child care, and vending
• Supply Chain Services (i.e., Accounts Payable, Travel and Procurement Services)
• Facilities Management
• Real Estate Services
Overseeing a staff of 350 employees and an annual operating budget of close to $50 million, the AVP serves as a collaborative partner across all operational units — both academic and administrative — to deliver solutions that enable operational excellence and promote best-in-class performance. With a focus on continuous improvement, the AVP will work to ensure strong business processes aligned with the university’s strategic direction.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree and extensive and significant progressively responsible experience is required (typically 15 or more years).
• Experience leading one or more of the service areas for which the position is responsible
• Expertise in portfolio and project management, business process mapping and redesign and, operational performance improvement
• Strong analytic, problem solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
• Experience in contract negotiation and management
• Deep understanding and knowledge of leading trends and practices among higher education institutions and industry leaders
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills with an ability to build effective relationships across all areas of the university
• Commitment to exceptional customer service
• Experience working at a complex institution of higher education or similar educational or non-profit organization

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s level degree in business administration, management, organizational psychology, design management, or other related field
• Certification in Lean Six Sigma, process mapping, continuous improvement or other related credential
• Portfolio and project management of large, complex business transformation and system implementation programs
• Experience with data-driven decision making
• Understanding of relevant accounting, tax, and other regulatory or compliance standards related to the delivery of business services
