Haven, Colgate University’s Sexual Violence Resource Center, opened in October 2016. During the prior academic year, students joined with faculty, staff, and administrators to develop the plans for Haven along with the need for enhanced sexual violence response and education on campus. Haven is now the central location of clinical treatment for survivors, sexual assault education and prevention, and collaboration with others to improve our survivor-centric responses to sexual violence.
This position has been designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA), in accordance with the federal statutory requirements of the Jeanne Clery Act. CSAs are required to and responsible for reporting allegations of crimes they receive from students and employees to the Campus Safety Department.

Accountabilities

As the Outreach Program Coordinator for Haven, you will find it is an exciting time to work at Colgate. Haven is celebrating its fifth anniversary and is in a state of growth, there is a commitment from the team to thrive and continue its growth.
The successful candidate will use creativity and teamwork to continue Haven’s development and extend its mission. They will lead in the development, coordination, and implementation of campus programs targeting sexual, gender-based and intimate partner violence, sexual harassment, and stalking within the student community.
With a focus on prevention training and educational programs and the goal of supporting the student population impacted by these issues the ideal candidate will play an integral part in the prevention of sexual violence on campus.
This position works collaboratively with Help Restore Hope’s Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners Program staff.

Areas of focus include responsibility for:

●developing, conducting and evaluating high quality, (sexual violence support and prevention training and programming), services with an analysis of how power and privilege shape violence and trauma
●provide advocacy services to survivors of all forms of violence
●support existing positive sexuality programming such as This Is Not a Play About Sex, Yes Means Yes Seminar and One Love
●coordinate the Haven Ambassador Program , a peer advocacy program to assist the Haven team with outreach and prevention training, and workshops
●effective recruitment, training, and supervision of the interns and ambassadors program
●coordinating and co-facilitating working committee meetings on a monthly basis
●the support and referral of students to the access of trauma-informed services on and off-campus, including confidential resources; in response to experiences involving sexual, gender-based and intimate partner violence, sexual harassment, and stalking
●supporting a collaborative approach to campus sexual assault support and prevention, including effective communication with a broad range of community members including students, Title IX coordinators, staff and faculty members
●effective support for Haven, including maintaining website information, inventory, Haven e-mail communications and programming budget projections
●effective management of logistics for event and programs including accurate capture, maintenance, and analysis of records and program data
●generating ideas for program execution and collaborations
●serving as a confidential resource to students seeking support and advice
●understanding protocol for responding to crises
●engage in institutional, divisional, and departmental meetings and activities addressing campus sexual/intimate partner violence
●maintain a high level of confidentiality

Colgate was first founded in 1817 as The Baptist Education Society of the State of New York by 13 men with $13 and 13 prayers. Today, Colgate is a thriving, highly selective liberal arts institution. Located in the geographic center of New York State. The University’s academic program is grounded in its Liberal Arts Core Curriculum, which has been in place since 1928 and is required of every undergraduate. The five core classes are Legacies of the Ancient World, Challenges of Modernity, Communities and Identities, Scientific Perspectives on the World, and Global Engagements. Undergraduates may choose from 56 majors and more than 40 additional minors. Hamilton and the Surrounding Community

Founded in 1795, the Village of Hamilton, named one of the friendliest towns in the United States by Forbes magazine, has a population of roughly 4,000. The Hamilton Village Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, and is home to an eclectic mix of shops and restaurants. The area is ideal for outdoor recreation including biking, hiking, trail running, and skiing. Colgate’s golf course, Seven Oaks, was designed by Robert Trent Jones and has been repeatedly recognized as one of the best college golf courses in the country. The University’s location provides easy access for summer hikes and winter ski trips. It is less than a one-hour drive from Syracuse, four hours away from New York City, and five hours from Boston.

Colgate and Hamilton have formed the Partnership for Community Development, which develops an active network of professional consultants, foundations, municipalities, and not-for-profit organizations located throughout the Central New York region to assist area residents, businesses, and visitors. This includes efforts to stimulate and support local business through small business development and the revitalization of historic buildings. To strengthen the relationship between the village and the University, and to add to the economic development of downtown, Colgate relocated its campus bookstore to the downtown area of the village. Similarly, Colgate owns the Palace Theater, a 300-seat performing arts venue that is leased to an external nonprofit arts organization.
