Job Summary

Provide general cleaning services for University Housing Facilities on and off campus.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct exterior and interior cleaning of the buildings that may include, but is not limited to: wiping and scrubbing down walls, doors and light fixtures, sweeping stairs and walkways, picking up trash, clearing playgrounds, parking lots and dumpster areas, pressure washing sidewalks and buildings, cleaning kitchen, bathroom and laundry areas, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, etc.
  • Conduct daily walkthroughs of the facilities ensuring the premises are safe, clean and presentable.
  • Report and follow up on Housing Property Service concerns.
  • Create work orders based on oral or written requests from campus customers after clarifying their requirements.
  • Keep record of service calls and work orders.
  • Performing and documenting routine inspection and maintenance activities.
  • Clean, stock and supply designated facility areas (dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning ceiling vents, restroom cleaning etc.)
  • Carry out heavy cleansing tasks and special projects in Housing Operations Services.
  • Notify management of occurring deficiencies or needs for repairs.
  • Stock and maintain supply rooms.
  • Cooperate with the rest of the staff.
  • Follow all health and safety regulations.
  • Ensure that student workers are properly trained while working with machinery and hazardous materials; instruct co-workers and crew in safety rules; participate in the Safe Colleges training program.
  • Responsible for completing minor work orders such as changing light bulbs, replacing smoke detectors, light switch and outlet covers, plunging and unclogging toilets, unclogging sink and shower drains, patching and painting minor holes in walls, cutting and replacing louvers, repairing holes in screens, etc.
  • Work with and teach residents how to properly clean and take care of their living quarters.
  • Required to remain on duty until the daily work is completed.
  • Educate residents on policies and procedures and set a good example.
  • Accurately and objectively document policy violations and educate residents on how to avoid these violations.
  • Have a working knowledge of university resources provided for students, and give recommendations that could enhance the resident’s university experience.
  • Assume scheduled on-call duty responsibilities, which may cover night-time, weekend, holiday and break periods.
  • Complete and submit all paperwork as assigned in a timely manner, etc.
  • Preserve the confidentiality of personal student information by abiding by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act FERPA
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

Typical non air-conditioned environment. Will be working indoors as well as outdoors. Subject to outdoor weather, gasoline-powered engines, fumes, caustic chemicals, airborne particles with exposure to high, precarious workplaces. Required to stand, have finger dexterity, stoop, kneel, and move or lift up to 50 pounds.
