Your opportunity:

The Office of Communications is the proactive voice of the University of Toronto Mississauga. It handles all broad-based marketing initiatives on campus including branding, visual identity standards and advertising. Working collaboratively and strategically with academic and administrative units across the campus as well as with our community partners and media, we enhance understanding and support of U of T Mississauga nationally and internationally.

The Communications team seeks a Senior Social Media Strategist who understands the value of strategic social media engagement, and can use that approach to oversee high-quality, timely and effective social media content and practices that support the campus’s strategic communications objectives. Reporting to the Director, Content, this individual will oversee social media strategy for the central UTM social media accounts, identifying emerging opportunities to increase follower and engagement metrics, maintaining a social media editorial calendar, and analyzing metrics and industry trends to make recommendations on new platforms, tactics and campaigns. Using critical thinking and professionalism, this individual will act as a key campus resource, handle competing deadlines and build strong relationships with internal and external colleagues.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Advising on social mediatrends and platforms to enhance digital communication strategies
  • Advising on strategies to maximize social media presence and growth
  • Keeping well-informed on social media trends, technologies and best practices
  • Advising and coaching clients on handling crisis management and issues affecting public relations
  • Tracking and monitoring social media analytics
  • Directing the activities of a single ongoing staff-appointed employee

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years.
  • Proficiency with all relevant social media platforms (e.g. Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc.)
  • Proficiency withonline media management systems (digital media bank, YouTube, etc.)
  • Familiarity with workflow management software (e.g. Asana, Basecamp, etc.)
  • Familiarity with design software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.)


Assets (Nonessential):

  • Experience with post-secondary environment is an asset
