St. Mary's College of Maryland, a public, non-sectarian, co-educational liberal arts institution, seeks an accomplished, creative and collaborative leader to become its next vice president for student affairs. Chartered by the State of Maryland and designated by the State as its official honors college, St. Mary's College of Maryland (St. Mary's College) is recognized as the first National Public Honors College. Founded on the site of Maryland's first capital, at the place where the separation of church and state was first enacted as an ideal in this country, the College stands as a living legacy to the ideals of freedom and inclusiveness, in a setting that continually renews its commitment to the environment.

St. Mary's College has forged a singular identity as an institution offering a small college experience comparable to that found at exceptional private colleges, with commitments to affordability, inclusive diversity, equity and access. Its faculty excels in teaching, scholarship, creative thinking, community engagement and an appreciation of and commitment to the study  of world issues, cultures and communities. The College's LEAD (Learning Through Experiential and Applied Discovery) initiative blends together a thoughtful and purposeful academic experience with professional skill development, weaving credit-bearing courses and hands-on opportunities directly into each student's chosen major. Students are given the Honors College Promise, which guarantees every student the opportunity to undertake an internship, partake in research with a faculty member, or an international experience. First-year students have the option of using Job- IQ®, an online career curriculum that includes career exploration, resume development, interview skills and connections with alumni mentors.

Undergraduate and residential in nature, St. Mary's College has a diverse student body of approximately 1,600, emphasizes excellence in teaching and averages an impressive student to teacher ratio of 9:1. In recent years, the College has greatly enhanced its facilities, including new academic buildings and the Jamie L. Roberts Stadium, and is in the middle of constructing a new auditorium and academic building which will offer significant opportunities to enhance curricular and co-curricular programming.

The new vice president will join St. Mary's College at a pivotal moment in the institution's history. Dr. Tuajuanda Jordan, the College's seventh president, has built an exceptional leadership team. Reporting to the president, the new vice president will balance the dual roles of a strategic leader on the Executive Council (president’s cabinet), leading conversations on the optimal co-curricular experience to support the College's ambitious plans; and of an accessible and highly visible member of the community, engaging with students and guiding an outside-of-the-classroom experience that is attentive to student health and well-being and committed to full engagement and inclusion in a richly diverse community.

The vice president will lead a talented and committed staff and will work collaboratively with the president, Board of Trustees, senior leadership and faculty to develop and promote an exceptional student experience that is characterized by inclusion and personal as well as community growth and that advances the College's mission, ethos and core values. The vice president will closely partner with colleagues in academic affairs, inclusive diversity and equity, enrollment management, finance and advancement in a collective, collaborative effort to advance the agenda of the College under the leadership of Dr. Jordan. St. Mary's College has a deeply ingrained culture of cross-divisional collaboration and shared leadership. This leadership team is characterized by a collective engagement in the whole institution and the expectation that one will welcome input on key student life questions from Executive Council colleagues as well as offer insight and perspective on the challenges and strategies under consideration by other vice presidents.

Located in a beautiful rural waterfront setting covering 360 acres on the banks of the St. Mary's River, a tributary of the Chesapeake Bay, the College fully embraces its historic and physical geography with a commitment to sustainable development. The waterfront is a distinctive and highly attractive characteristic of the College and is fully integrated into the life of the campus for learning, recreation and sport. The campus adjoins Historic St. Mary's City, a fully accredited outdoor museum supported by the State of Maryland and private sources. The College and St. Mary's City are formally affiliated and the relationship affords students opportunities for fieldwork in archaeology and historic interpretation.
