The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Princeton University invites applications for a postdoctoral or more senior research associate position starting July 2020 or later. A Ph.D. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Applied and Computational Mathematics, Computational and Mathematical Engineering, or a related area is required. This research position is joint between the Computational Turbulent Reacting Flow Laboratory (CTRFL) led by Prof. Michael E Mueller, the Deike Research Group led by Prof. Luc Deike, and the Environmental Fluid Mechanics Research Group led by Prof. Elie Bou-Zeid. The specific project will develop computational simulation and modeling tools for offshore wind turbine wakes, the induced subsurface flow, and the subsequent influence on sediment transport in coastal waters by combining elements of both physics-based and data-based modeling approaches. A candidate for this position is sought with previous experience and expertise in Large Eddy Simulation of multi-physics turbulent flows, Direct Numerical Simulation of interfacial flows and waves, and/or computational simulations and modeling of wind turbines. The candidate will be expected to work closely with graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in the research groups toward collaborative development of a common computational software framework and with experimental collaborators in support of the project. The appointment is for one year, renewable annually based on satisfactory performance and available funding. This appointment is subject to the University's background check policy.
