The Controls Project Manager supports the Facilities Automation Center (FAC) with strategic planning efforts, project budget and performance forecasting and tracking, coordination with other departments, and coordination with other external professional service providers. The Controls Project Manager coordinates the portfolio of projects and tasks that FAC manages, including the assignment of project tasks and responsibilities to staff members, monitoring of project schedules, and reviews of financial performance. The Controls Project Manager will personally manage relationships with key customers and stakeholders as assigned by the Associate Director.


  • Directly manage complex controls upgrade and retrofit projects, including but not limited to managing and assigning internal labor (both FAC and non-FAC), managing and directing installation subcontractors, integrator, consultants, and other professional service providers.
  • Monitor and assess performance of the projects and tasks managed by Facilities Automation. Identify emerging project performance problems and provide recommendations to rectify.
  • Develop and manage project tracking tools used by the FAC group.
  • Conduct financial performance reviews of the FAC projects as requested by the Associate Director.
  • Regularly engage with customers to assess their level of satisfaction with services provided by FAC. Seek feedback from customers on their needs and opportunities for FAC to provide additional value to them.
  • Promote the capabilities of the FAC group to customers and management groups across the University.
  • Review project planning and execution policies and procedures and help identify opportunities for improvement and provide specific recommendations for change to Associate Director.
  • Personally serve as subject matter expert for new construction project teams by attending project design meetings and construction walk-throughs.
  • Serve as a single-point-of-contact for construction project managers related to project planning, design, construction, and commissioning support from FAC.
  • Develop turnkey cost estimates for FAC projects.
  • Develop resource management plans and tools with the Operations Manager.
  • Prepare scope of work documents, solicit bids, and manage professional services contracts.
  • Lead negotiations with vendors as assigned for specific projects.
  • Manage all projects accounts payables i.e. invoicing, purchase orders, etc.

  • Bachelor's degree in related engineering field or equivalent experience
  • Over 10 years related experience developing, installing, and maintaining commercial building automation systems
  • Over 2 years of experience managing Tridium Niagara based controls projects. N4 certification preferred.
  • Over 2 years of experience managing complex building infrastructure projects. Experience coordinating efforts across multiple departments and organizations. Experience engaging and managing subcontractors.
  • Experience working within the Higher Ed market or within similar campus type environments preferred. Experience with laboratories and critical spaces is a plus.
  • Familiar with common DDC communication protocols and network configurations
  • Experience working with multiple commercial building DDC system platforms (i.e. JCI, Siemens, Honeywell, ALC, etc.). Experience with Distech preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of commercial building HVAC processes and systems
  • Familiar with modern building analytic systems (like FDD)
  • Experienced user of MS Office Suite
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experienced with preparing and delivering formal presentations. Experience producing high quality project reports, requests for proposals, and professional correspondences.
  • Excellent customer relations skills
  • PMP certification is a plus
