Job Description:

Direct and manage the Industrial Maintenance Mechanics that maintain the four (4) chiller plant sites in the South District or three (3) chiller plant sites in the North District. Oversee and ensure the employees’ compliance with all applicable safety regulations, Lockout/Tagout, building codes, and safety requirements. Ensure completion of maintenance and repair jobs in accordance with established standards. Ensure constant communication with Operations regarding all maintenance activities, status updates, anticipated return to service and unit availability.

Competent in all chiller plant computer systems, including JCI, Siemens, Automated Logic, and Trane. Collaborate with Superintendent for best practices of preventative maintenance program on services of pumps, cooling towers, chiller units, compressors, pneumatic control systems, and related equipment. Coordinate and maintain reports and send all updated preventive maintenance records to the appropriate correspondents.

Manage all employees’ time and activities. Complete work requests in a timely manner, using a computerized system (Aim Work Management). Create scope of work and initiate requisitions through MyUF Market for projects. Manage vendor activities to ensure work is completed in accordance with University of Florida (UF) standards through follow up inspections, commissioning, and proper documentation. Process supporting and closing documents to initiate vendor payments by UF/FS standards. Manage all maintenance contracts, standards operating procedures, and safety standards compliance. Keep up-to-date records, manuals, and drawings for the chiller systems. Direct and coordinate the layout, estimating, scheduling, and accomplishments of jobs with other maintenance departments. Order parts and supplies in support of the Utilities Chilled Water and Steam activities while assuring all work orders are charged correctly. Ensure direct reports are properly equipped with safety apparel and shop stock to be effective and efficient in the field.

Perform daily inspections and provide on the job training to insure quality and to maximize productivity. Demonstrate knowledge and skills through hands-on training and education curriculum for National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Industrial Maintenance Mechanic/Chiller Plant Technician program within Facilities Services. Complete appraisals for direct reports to assist with the employees’ continual professional growth.

Ensure that Work Management and all applicable managers are aware of projects and outages taking place and projects statues. Update the Superintendent and Project Managers with the progress of all work performed. Attend schedule meetings and prepare presentations (as needed).

Work emergencies, shifts, and on-call (as required). Assume additional duties in the absence of other district energy Maintenance Specialists for Chilled Water Department.

Drive UF/state vehicle that requires a valid driver license.

Regular shift : Monday through Friday, 07:00 AM to 03:30 PM;

Irregular hours: Work emergencies as needed, occasional weekend or holidays, evening call-outs as required.

Expected Salary:

Commensurate with experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Completion of an approved apprenticeship program in a recognized trade and relevant experience to total five years; or a high school diploma or equivalent and five years of relevant experience. Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Successful Completion of NCCER Core curriculum within one year of hire.

Successful Completion of UF Supervisory Challenge within one year of hire.

Must posses or obtain Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Universal Transition and Recovery certification.

This position requires a criminal background and post offer health assessment.

Preferred Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of administering and supervising refrigeration operation maintenance and repair of chilled water generating units

SKILLS: Skill in maintaining up-to-date records and drawings for the chiller system

ABILITIES

- Ability to supervise the preventive maintenance program for the chiller systems

- Ability to recognize the proper materials and equipment to be used for a specific job and make change as necessary
