Hazardous Materials TechnicianJob Description:
Assist in the pick-up and segregation of hazardous waste from over 1500 UF research labs and various auxiliary operations (physical plant, housing, etc.). This includes assuring compliance with local, state and federal regulation
Pick-up and processing of radioactive waste from over 1500 UF research labs. This includes assuring compliance with local, state and federal regulation..
Assist in the processing, sorting packaging and shipment of hazardous waste. This includes assuring compliance with local, state and federal regulation.
Perform maintenance tasks associated with the upkeep of the Waste Management Facility and related safety and emergency response equipment
Maintain knowledge base regarding waste regulations. Assist regarding chemical spills and handling.
Attendance at professional trainings and courses to maintain required federal and state waste handler credentials.
Administrative interaction with outside vendors and university departments.Expected Salary:
$17.00 - $18.00 per hour; commensurate with education and experience.Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent and two years of relevant experience. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
This position requires a post offer health assessment, Hazardous Material response training and annual EPA training. Candidate must be able to do physical labor, wear a full-face air purifying respirator, have a valid Florida Driver’s License, and have the ability to distinguish colors.Preferred Qualifications:
EDUCATION & TRAINING: Bachelor’s degree including coursework in the basic physical sciences.
Experience in radiation protection technology and radioactive materials handling.
Experience with hazardous materials or hazardous waste regulations
Knowledge in radiation protection technology and radioactive materials handling.
Knowledge of basic safety principles.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook)
Ability to understand and apply rules, regulations and policies. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to do physical labor
Ability to wear a full-face air purifying respirator
Ability to distinguish colors.
Post Offer Health Assessment required
Hazardous Material response training.
Annual EPA training.
