Junior or Assistant Specialist- Molecular and Cell Biology- Nayak Lab

The Nayak Lab in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at UC Berkeley is looking for a Full Time Junior or Assistant Specialist to conduct research on developing genome editing tools for genome-wide functional screens of archaea.

Responsibilities:
The position involves research pertaining to the development and application of functional genetics and genomics techniques such barcoded transposon mutagenesis and CRISPR-Cas9 editing screens. The researcher will use anaerobic cultivation techniques to grow archaea, build mutagenic plasmids using state of the art cloning technologies and perform lipofections to generate and validate mutant libraries. The researcher will also assist with preparation of Illlumina sequencing libraries. This position also involves lab maintenance duties including preparing common reagents and growth media, ordering supplies, and routine maintenance of glove boxes/anaerobic chambers. The successful candidate will be appointed at the Junior or Assistant rank commensurate with experience and accomplishments .

Basic Qualifications required at the time of application:
Bachelor degree or international equivalent degree.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor Degree or International Equivalent degree in microbiology, biochemistry, and genetics.
Applicants with a background or interest in anaerobic microbiology, microbial physiology and molecular genetics are strongly encouraged to apply.
