Job Description Summary
The Department Administrator for the department of Anthropology has overall responsibility for effective administrative operation and staff leadership and reports directly to the Chair of the department.

Job Description

This is a strategic position and the senior non-academic member of the department. The Department Administrator will support the Chair by being proficient in relevant administrative policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure effective operations of the department and assisting the Chair in decision-making and prioritization on day-to-day management. S/he will oversee budget monitoring, manage deadlines, compose and route correspondence. The Department Administrator has direct overall supervisory responsibility for all departmental staff and other support staff including hiring, training and evaluating staff.

Bachelor's degree and two to three years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Experience in departmental administration in higher education strongly preferred. Strong interpersonal skills required. The successful candidate will have very strong written and verbal skills, strong influencing skills showing a logical, pragmatic approach in achieving end results. This position has a leadership role in the department and must be a problem solver who is a collaborative, independent thinker who understands the priorities of an academic department. Must have discretion and good judgment and maintain confidentiality when appropriate. Experience supervising staff preferred.
