About the College/Unit/Department:

The mission of the Office of Institutional Diversity is to provide institutional leadership to the focused effort to enhance and maintain a diverse and inclusive environment for learning, teaching, research and service at The University of Georgia. OID goals include:
Enhancing diversity awareness and education through training and learning opportunities for faculty, students and staff throughout the university. Promoting awareness of UGA’s diversity efforts by supporting diversity related events across the UGA campuses. Establishing and defining strategic partnerships between the Office of Institutional Diversity and other units. Identifying and obtaining additional resources that will enhance and support institutional diversity endeavors.

Position Summary:

The Assistant Director of Student Initiatives will lead the Office of Institutional Diversity (OID) in the creation of programmatic and institutional efforts that focus on the academic success, achievement, and engagement of students who hold identity within historically underrepresented and marginalized student populations. The Assistant Director will report to the Director of Diversity and Inclusion and be a part of the Diversity and Inclusion Team within OID. This position will also have expertise in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion with a focus on student recruitment, academic success, and achievement. In addition, this individual will serve as a liaison between OID and campus partners, and contribute their expertise to the campus and field developing trainings, presentations, publications, and reports and supervise one or more graduate assistants.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

Knowledge of and experience with educational access, graduation success and the particular challenges confronted by underrepresented students at predominantly white institutions.
Background in diversity, inclusion, multiculturalism, ally development, and/or social justice.
Ability to navigate and manage a large, complex public university.
Available to work weeknights and weekends.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Strong evidence of culturally competent interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Experienced with Microsoft Office Suite as well as web and social media tools.
Independent, highly organized and detail-oriented.
Energetic, hard-working and enthusiastic team player.
Commitment to achieving measurable results.
