Position Summary

The Learning Specialist is responsible for maintaining a caseload of approximately ten student-athletes per week, providing academic guidance and facilitating improvement and success and communicating student-athlete academic progress to staff weekly. The Learning Specialist will have regular evening job and/or Sunday responsibilities, including assisting with the coordination and operation of the tutorial quality control program. Ensures compliance with NCAA, SEC and UGA rules and regulations pertaining to all area of the Athletic Association.

Serve as the primary learning specialist for a specific group of student-athletes. Provide academic support for academically at-risk student-athletes on an individualized basis with an emphasis on academic skill development. Ensure assigned students understand assignments in their courses, help them to develop an organizational system that will facilitate success in their courses, assist students in areas where there are cognitive deficiencies, and help coordinate with assigned tutors and mentors to make sure they are receiving proper academic assistance.

Serve as the Tutorial Quality Control Coordinator. Monitor tutorial sessions for quality and compliance. Serve as a resource for tutors, students, and staff regarding subject tutoring sessions. Assist with tutor observations to more effectively support student-athletes. Assume responsibility for tracking absences, submitting payroll, and sending out weekly communication to subject tutoring staff.
