Preferred QualificationsPosition Summary

This is an entry-level research technician position in a molecular plant
genetics laboratory. Primary duties will include preparing genomic libraries
for Next-Generation Sequencing and performing molecular techniques at the
bench for projects in our lab. Additionally, this position involves laboratory
maintenance tasks including organizing the lab, taking inventory, placing
orders, and general upkeep.

projects. Highly focused on the task at hand. Can work equally well independently or as a team to complete projects.

Physical Demands

Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Sit or stand for long periods of time and use repetitive actions during the entire workday. Use micropipettes and perform repetitive movements with their hands.

Duties/Responsibilities

Duties/Responsibilities

Library preparation. Can include genomic DNA libraries, bisulfite libraries, RNA-seq, DAP-seq, and ChIP-seq libraries. Maintaining sample inventory, preparing inputs, making the libraries, checking library quality, pooling samples and submitting orders for sequencing.

Routine techniques for projects in the lab. Can include planting and maintaining seed lines, genotyping plants using PCR, and working with BSL1 bacteria toward directed projects.

Laboratory maintenance, organization, and inventory.

Isolation of nucleic acids. Collecting tissue from plants and extracting DNA and RNA from tissue using established protocols.

Management of sequencing data. Includes downloading the data, using the command line to organize data for long-term storage, and notifying lab members when the data is available for their use.
