The University of North Alabama invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Counselor Education to teach Master’s level core counseling courses in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling Programs. Appointment begin date is Fall of 2021. Possible courses include practicum, social and cultural foundations, contemporary practices in clinical mental health counseling, diagnosis and treatment planning, crisis intervention, family counseling, and addictions counseling. Courses are offered weekdays during the late afternoon and evening, primarily in a traditional format, and summer teaching is typically available.

Additional responsibilities include: Supervise, advise, mentor, and recruit students; participate in the enhancement of university and community relationships; assist with curriculum development and accreditation planning; engage in scholarly activities; and serve on departmental, college, and university committees.  Applicants are expected to have a commitment to the teaching and mentoring of students, the potential for excellence in instruction, evidence of potential for achievement in scholarly activities, a record of participation in professional organizations, and a commitment to addressing the counseling needs of diverse populations.

Minimum qualifications include: An earned doctorate in Counselor Education is required, preferably from a CACREP-accredited institution; Experience in the area of clinical mental health counseling required; current licensure in, or the eligibility to be licensed as, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Alabama is preferred; National Certified Counselor designation preferred; Professional identity as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor required; College/university teaching experience preferred; and experience in curriculum development, accreditation, and/or program planning is preferred.
