Job Overview

I am the PI on a subcontract to Georgetown University Medical Center of a newly awarded DTRA contract. This part-time position is needed to fulfill the work required under this subcontract. The fact that this position was approved under the budget for the GU subcontract by the funding agency indicates the necessity of this position. Over the three year term of this subcontract there will be a substantial amount of work. Thus we need to hire this part-time technical staff member to assist on the required tasks. The most important functions of this position will be to assist the PI and senior personnel with studies dealing with cell and molecular biology, including animal studies. The individual in this position will also assist in analysis of the results of the studies.

Work Interactions

The part-time individual hired will work directly with, and report to, two of the senior researchers in the laboratory who are at the level of Associate Professor and Assistant Professor of Research. Ultimately, they will also report to the PI.

Requirements and Qualifications

This position requires an individual with an advanced degree, at least an MSc. Degree, in the field of Biochemistry, Biology or Molecular Biology. This individual should be self-motivated, with good organizational skills as well as practical research laboratory experience, both bench work and work with animal models.

The applicant should have practical experience in most biologic techniques including molecular/cell biology (including mammalian cell culture), lipid chemistry, protein chemistry, animal models, establishment of stable cell lines, in vitro gene transfer, histology. Specific techniques preferred include Western Blot analysis, liposome preparation, protein analysis, transfection, DNA, RNA and protein isolation/purification. Experience working with rodents, particularly mice, is a plus, but not a requirement.

The successful candidate will also have the ability to quickly learn new laboratory techniques.
