Position: Postdoctoral Scholar - Employee
Location: University of California, Berkeley, CA
Salary: Commensurate with experience
Target start date: Fall 2020

The School of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a Post-doctoral Scholar research opening for data-scientist interested in machine learning and causal inference methods. This is a full-time position with an expected start date in fall 2020. The position will be funded for a minimum of 1 year at 100% FTE and will be supervised by Professor Mark van der Laan and Professor Maya Petersen.

The Center for Targeted Learning in the School of Public Health is recruiting for a postdoctoral scholar position in support of the aims in an NIH-RO1-grant on the development and application of statistical methodology for adaptive designs. In particular, it involves the development and application of a data adaptive surveillance system involving random sampling and testing for infectious diseases such as COVID-ID and HIV. In addition, it involves extending these adaptive surveillance systems to also include adaptive learning of (optimal) intervention strategies. These adaptive designs involve learning from the past, adjusting the sampling/test/treatment randomization probabilities, and online estimators with inference for various causal queries and measures of performance about the system one observes over time.
