Description:

Sinai Health System (SHS) and the University Health Network (UHN) are seeking an applicant for a full-time active staff anesthesiologist appointment at the Mount Sinai Hospital site (MSH), Toronto General Hospital and Toronto Western Hospitals in Toronto. The successful candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer, Assistant/Associate or Full Professor in the Department of Anesthesia, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto. The anticipated start date will be February 1, 2021 or one which is mutually agreed upon.

Mount Sinai (442 beds) is an acute care hospital and home to the largest high-risk obstetric center in Canada. Surgical services include general surgery, gynecology, otolaryngology, urology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, dentistry, orthopedics, and ophthalmology. All surgical programs have significant oncology components. Opportunities for practice in acute and chronic pain are also available.

The Toronto General (406 beds) and Toronto Western Hospitals (272 beds) are part of the University Health Network and are tertiary care centres. Toronto General is a world-renowned cardiovascular and transplant centre and is a referral centre for complex oncology surgery. Toronto Western is one of Canada’s premier neuroscience centres and has a very busy regional anesthesia team which has been a pioneer in the development of ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia. Opportunities for practice in acute and chronic pain are also available at all sites.

The successful candidate will provide anesthetic care throughout the surgical and obstetric programs including supervision and teaching of students, residents, and fellows. On-call services will be provided in rotation. Participation in formal in-house and University teaching programs, as well as hospital administrative duties will be expected. Academic opportunities for research and teaching are available. Protected time is awarded according to a merit-based system. The incumbent will have major clinical responsibilities and in addition to their own academic activities, will facilitate the research, teaching, and education by others. Teaching may be done concurrently with clinical care and/or in organized educational programs.

The successful candidate must have a medical degree, postgraduate fellowship training, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in anesthesia (or equivalent) and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. The successful candidate must have proven clinical skills at a high level, evidence of demonstrated excellence in research and/or education and a commitment to teaching students, residents, and fellows. Compensation will depend on the amount of clinical work performed and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and within the usual range for an anesthesiologist in the Province of Ontario ($300,000-500,000 per annum).
