The candidate in this position is expected to work well in the areas of epidemiology and diagnostics for Chagas disease. Expertise in both immunology and molecular biology will be a requirement as well as experience in population-based studies and working in Latin America. Spanish language proficiency is preferred. The candidate will develop a program to examine the genomic variants in Trypanosoma cruzi and utilize differences and similarities to produce genus- and strain-specific diagnostics. The candidate will also be responsible for teaching at least one semester at the graduate or undergraduate level and for obtaining funding for research activities. 

The candidate is also expected to work with other departments in the school as well as local officials in epidemiologic surveys of the Latinx population of Louisiana primarily focused on Chagas disease, but potentially other conditions, such as COVID-19, as well.
