Areas of expertise which are of interest are musculoskeletal biomechanics, human movement science, rehabilitation, arthritis, musculoskeletal imaging, and/or sports medicine. With the guiding vision of building a nationally recognized musculoskeletal research program to increase understanding and solve problems of the musculoskeletal system. The successful candidate will contribute substantially to this driving vision through outreach and collaboration across the department, college, and university. Furthermore, play an active role in enhancing trainee engagement and increasing diversity, including mentoring students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds. Initial support for salary and laboratory development will be provided over the first 2 years after which it is anticipated that this position will be self-sustaining through extramural grants.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Establish a strong research program that is of high­-impact and externally funded. Areas of expertise which are of interest include, but are not limited to musculoskeletal biomechanics, human movement science, rehabilitation, arthritis, musculoskeletal imaging, and/or sports medicine. 
  • Collaborate with other investigators and clinicians in our community who are working on musculoskeletal science and translational research related to arthritis, biomaterials, upper and lower extremities, tendon, ligament, and clinical outcomes. Outreach and collaboration across the department, college, and university will contribute to our driving vision.  
  • Contribute substantially in building a nationally recognized musculoskeletal research program to achieve our shared vision of increasing understanding and solving problems of the musculoskeletal system.
  • Play an active role in enhancing trainee engagement and increasing diversity, including mentoring students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds. 
  • Report to the Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery.
  • Maintain extramural funding.
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in a musculoskeletalfield and/or MD degree with demonstrated research experience and funding inmusculoskeletal research. 
Preferred Qualifications*Highly preferred, Laboratory directorship related to sports medicine research experience. *Candidates for Assistant Professor level are expected to demonstrate capability of rigorous and independent research for extramurally funded research program. *Candidates for Associate and Full Professor level are expected to have an established track record of extramural funding with R01 (or equivalent) grants. *Collaboration with other basic science and clinical faculty members in the Colleges of Medicine and Engineering is expected.
