Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Manager, the Clinical Nurse functions independently providing direct and indirect patient care based on the nursing process for the ALS/Neuromuscular clinic. Functions as a primary contact for patients. Provides education as needed to patients/family related to medical care, diagnostic procedures, medications, and other complex aspects of the plan of care. Assures that the continuum of care process is complete to include pre-procedure, therapy protocols, peri-hospitalization, anticipate discharge needs, and follow-up in the physician office. Supports the faculty, fellows and residents in clinic during patient care sessions. Oversee/coordinate multidisciplinary team clinic by facilitating efficient clinic workflow. Performs scheduling of office visits, assist with outpatient clinic procedures, in-person and telephone triage, care coordination, infusion coordination, prior authorizations for specialty drugs, patient education, and assist research personnel with research related procedures.

Compensation Range:

Hourly: $48.41 - $56.71

All external candidates must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Current California RN license.

Minimum of 6 months demonstrated nursing experience in an acute care or ambulatory care setting.

Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.

Ability to work variable shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Ability to maintain flexibility and work well in a constantly changing environment.

Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties.


Bilingual skills to communicate effectively with patients and families.

Understanding of JCAHO requirements.

Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms.

Experience working in a fast paced clinic on patients with debilitating and usually life ending diseases such as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease and Myasthenia Gravis (MG); working with patients with other neuromuscular diseases such as muscular dystrophy, Pompe disease, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy.
