Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Education Manager, the Assistant Education Coordinator position provides professional, analytical and administrative program support for the Department of Surgery Residency Program, which consists of 40 residents. Incumbent provides comprehensive administrative support for the academic functions associated with faculty, fellows, residents and medical students. Contributes to positive team goals and coordination improvement and will serve as a program liaison with the GME office and various other agencies, organizations, and groups. Prepares a variety of documentation associated with program operations; distributes documentation or retains records as appropriate and maintains records. Develops processes to improve task efficiency by standardizing formats for routine correspondence and identify areas for improved efficiency. Applies acquired skills, process, and policy knowledge to support professional health education program learners. Coordinates program operations, which include teaching and learning activities, program curriculum, learner scheduling, maintaining databases, tracking learner compliance, and program accreditation. This position necessitates strong, independent judgment, problem-solving and organizational skills. A demonstrated proficiency in the independent preparation, transcription and updating of resident curriculum, as well as coordinating the weekly resident didactic session is required.

Compensation Range:

Hourly $21.60 - $32.90

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience. Strong organizational and communication skills. Excellent judgment and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with administrators, faculty, staff, vendors and other constituencies inside and outside of the organization. Professional experience, business acumen, and integrity to effectively serve and represent the department. Proven ability to work independently and carry out assigned tasks reliably and accurately with only general direction. Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial, personnel and payroll information. Ability to collect and analyze data and make effective related recommendations. Computer skills (Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Access). Attention to detail. Ability to set priorities which accurately reflect the relative importance of job. Ability to work in a dynamic environment of rapidly changing priorities. Ability to work autonomously.


Experience utilizing UCI network systems. Demonstrated knowledge of School of Medicine, UCI campus and general UC accounting, purchasing, travel, and payroll policies and procedures. Knowledge of University branding for headers, flyers and announcements. Working knowledge of New Innovations, NRMP, ACGME and other residency management platforms. Knowledge of ACGME regulations and standards as they pertain to the residency program. Knowledge of CME and MOC processes. Ability to adapt to ACGME and American Board of Surgery changes and initiate/execute solutions to new requirements.
