Job Description Summary

A Part Time Research Assistant C position is available in the Department of Neurology. This position will assist in the management of multiple projects and responsibilities in specific areas of epilepsy research. The prospective research assistant will perform routine laboratory tasks such as rodent colony maintenance, genotyping, collecting and processing of clinical biosamples, preparing reagents, ordering and tracking of lab supplies and maintaining lab inventory. In addition, he/she will assist senior level researchers on various supervised research projects within the laboratory, gathering data from experiments and completing data entry and analysis.

This position is contingent upon funding.

Job Description

Skilled laboratory technicians that works with complex systems or perform highly technical mechanical or diagnostic tests in medical or scientific laboratories. Assists the laboratory manager to perform complex laboratory maintenance tasks and other laboratory projects, as assigned. Will assists senior level researchers on various supervised research projects within the lab. The technician will carry out routine tasks such as preparation of media and reagents, place orders for supplies, help maintain inventory and place lab equipment in their designated areas at the end of the day. He/she will gather data from experiments, complete data entry and analyze data in collaboration with Principal Investigators and postdoctoral researchers - with the intent of presenting research results in laboratory meetings.

College degree with 0-1 year of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Data collection and analysis

Preparing reagents, ordering and tracking of lab supplies and maintaining lab inventory

Maintaining rodent colonies and genotyping transgenic animal lines

Screening and enrolling research subjects from inpatient and outpatient clinical settings

Collecting and processing of clinical biosamples, ensuring appropriate documentation and handling

Working Conditions
Office, library, computer room; Requires extensive safety training; Requires protective devices

Typically sitting at a desk or table; Occasional lifting 25 lb.
