Job Description Summary

The Heller Lab is seeking a Research Specialist, with lab management responsibilities.

All members of the Heller Lab participate in the ongoing research and receive mentorship and training from Dr. Heller and other members of the group.

This position is contingent upon grant funding.

Job Description

Responsibilities include management of a mouse breeding colony, including genoytyping, lab supply and animal ordering, chemical maintenance, waste disposal, and equipment maintenance (including surgical isoflurane system, fluorescent stereoscope, freezers).

Depending on the experience and interests of the Research Specialist, research activities may additionally include mouse brain dissection, isolation of nucleic acid, PCR, chromatin-immunoprecipitation, cell culture and transfections, mouse intracranial stereotaxic surgery, drug self-administration behavior, subchronic variable stress behavior, and more. Closely collaborates with Senior Research Specialists and Principal Investigator (PI) on experimental/clinical work set ups in accordance to established protocols.


BA degree and 0-1 year experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required; proficient in Microsoft office suite applications;

Preferred qualifications: experience in mouse microsurgery; experience in molecular biology research; statistical analysis; proficient in adobe creative suite applications

Office, Library, Computer Room; Requires extensive safety

Typically sitting at a desk or table; Occasional lifting 25 lb. or less
