The Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research seeks to improve the health of individuals, families, and populations by understanding the problems, issues, and alternatives in the design and delivery of health care services. This is accomplished through an interdisciplinary program of research, consultation, technical assistance, and training that focuses on timely and policy-relevant questions concerning the accessibility, adequacy, organization, cost, and effectiveness of health care services, and the dissemination of this information to policymakers and the general public.

Position Description

This position will support the RTI-UNC Evidence-based Practice Center (EPC) of which the primary activities are conducting, publishing, and presenting systematic reviews and related products. The position will support investigators in all activities involved in conducting systematic reviews, including conducting literature searches on healthcare topics for proposal development, review updates, topic refinement, and systematic reviews. They will assist with identifying and retrieving relevant scientific publications. This position will also provide general research and administrative support for EPC projects, including the following: coordinate weekly project meetings; create and maintain databases; prepare summary tables; and assist with preparing documents and presentations.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

• Experience with health services research
• Experience navigating PubMed and other library resources
• Experience editing and proofreading in a health or medical field
• Substantial working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Visio

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will have 5 plus years of experience in health services research and:
•Ability to work effectively and efficiently with project investigators and staff through each stage of a systematic review
•Ability to collaborate with investigators and librarians to develop appropriate search strategies
•Experience downloading and sharing literature search results in a variety of formats, including text-only files, Word and .rtf formats, and EndNote libraries
•Experience creating tracking systems for reviewing gray and other sources of literature
•Experience in navigating PubMed and UNC University Library resources for identification and retrieval of relevant literature
•Substantial working knowledge of Endnote and PowerPoint
•Substantial working knowledge of Abstract and other systematic review software programs
•Ability to read and understand healthcare literature
